News was released today about the upcoming Star Trek series starring Patrick Stewart, who will be reprising his role as Jean-Luc Picard. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gates McFadden will also be reprising her role on the show.

McFadden played Dr. Beverly Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation and the films based on the series. She will be appearing on the Picard series to demonstrate that women do, indeed, continue to both exist and function properly after 45 years of age.

“Crusher is a highly accomplished medical physician, and we thought it was important to show that professional skill does not, as many believe, disappear once a woman turns 45,” McFadden told The Hollywood Reporter. “A lot of people don’t understand that.”

“It’s weird, it seems like people think women have their own personal Thanos who just snaps them out of existence on the day after their 45th birthday,” McFadden continued, “Either that, or they immediately transform into irrelevant cat ladies who have apparently forgotten everything they learned in college, grad school, and the professional world, and who don’t know that sex is a thing.”

The series will be streamed via CBS All Access.
